Services

Inspections:
Capitol Chimney Service does inspections for your chimney, fireplace, and related venting system. Chimneys and venting systems should be inspected after a chimney fire, purchasing a home with a chimney, or changes to a chimney or vent system.

Chimney Sweeps/Cleaning:
The purpose of chimney cleaning is to remove flammable deposits such as soot and creosote from the interior walls of a chimney. If these deposits are allowed to build up, they will eventually ignite and cause a chimney fire.

Chimney Repair & Rebuilds:
We repair damaged chimneys and the rebuilding process is required when the chimney is severely damaged, beyond the normal repairs of spot cutting. The causes for rebuilds will normally be water damage, settling foundation, a lighting strike, or using a fireplace.

Chimney Relining / Masonry:
Chimneys should be lined. The flue liner contains the heat and byproducts of combustion, protecting your home and family from their affects. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that if your flue liners can no longer do this they should be repaired or removed and replaced. Our point up masonry work fixes cracks in the mortar, waterproofing caps and crowns.

Gas/Oil Flue Cleaning:
The best time of the year to clean an oil chimney is in the spring time, after the heating season. The oil furnace is subjected to long running cycles which will produce oil soot that may adhere to the sides of the chimney.

Gas Log Installtion:
Gas logs offer the aesthetic beauty of a wood burning fire with the convenience of gas. The heat output from vented gas logs is slightly better than the heat output from a regular wood fire in the same fireplace.

Damper Installation:
The chimney damper is used to control the fire, and to close the chimney when not in use to keep drafts, birds and bugs from entering your home thru the chimney. If you have an open fireplace, even with glass doors, the damper is absolutely essential.

Fireplace Cleaning:
Cleaning the fireplace should ideally come at a time when you do not expect to use it for a while, as in the warm summer months. Many people detest the task of cleaning out several months' worth of ash, soot, and smoke build-up.

Waterproofing:
Waterproofing a chimney is a preventative means to protect the chimney from the elements or to help prevent further damages. It’s very important that it be protected from water because it’s porous and will eventually allow water into the house.

Spot Cutting:
Spot cutting is required when the chimney has a few bricks that are spalling or cracked in certain areas. The process of spot cutting is basically cutting out the damaged bricks and replacing them with new bricks.

Cap Installation:
Chimney caps improve home safety, prevents disruptive occurrences, and helps avoid costly repairs. Caps also keep out animals, rain, wind, and prevents embers and sparks from flying out of the chimney and damaging your roof.

Crown Installation:
A mortar cap, or chimney crown, that has been improperly constructed, or one that has become deteriorated over time, may be the cause of water leaking into your attic through cracks or broken mortar in the crown.

All concrete crowns and flex crowns carry a 10 year warranty. Lifetime warranty on all rain caps!
